No direct sun expected today, with almost no wind to speak of and steady pressure. Activity on Skinny Lake should centre on the shaded margin through bright spells. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Skinny Lake lies within the bounds of Haliburton County, Ontario. Height above sea level is 451 metres. At about 16 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 2.5 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. It is high ground by Ontario standards. The big place round here is Barrie, 143 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Haliburton County include smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and rock bass. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Skinny Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
The seasonal spread runs -12°C to 18°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Skinny Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Stubby Lake, 0.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Skinny Lake carry more weight than any list.
