Open sky and sharp air tonight, with a consistent blow out of the WNW with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Shoepac Lake is sheltered bays and points. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Shoepac Lake is set in Sudbury, Ontario. Beyond the shoreline you have taiga. Surface area is around 21 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Roughly 3.9 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Chapleau at 16 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Wawa at 100 km and Timmins at 164 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Shoepac Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -16°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. That is the shape of the year on Shoepac Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Little Racine Lake at 4 km is the nearest alternative. For Shoepac Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
