Solid cloud cover today, with a kind W breeze on the water and pressure going nowhere. Expect most activity at Serpentine Lake around the weed line and any gaps in it. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Timiskaming District end of Ontario holds Serpentine Lake. It stands 352 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 46 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. You are looking at roughly 5.5 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Englehart sits 75 km from the bank. Kirkland Lake follows at 80 km, then Temiskaming Shores at 88 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Serpentine Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. That is the shape of the year on Serpentine Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Brett Lake at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. Confirm before you fish Serpentine Lake.
