Wet weather working through today, with an easy breeze from the WNW with the glass holding level. The productive water at Screen Lake will be around sheltered bays and points. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Screen Lake is set in Thunder Bay District, Ontario. Height above sea level is 354 metres. With some 26 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 4.1 km, small enough to learn in a day. Nearest place of any size is Nipigon, 30 km away. Schreiber follows at 86 km, then Greenstone at 90 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Records held for Thunder Bay District cover cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Screen Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -18°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan around that when you fish Screen Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Slipper Lake at 1.4 km is the sensible second choice. For Screen Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
