Overcast skies today, with a useful SW wind pushing food about and steady pressure. Most of the action on Sawyer Lake should come off inflow corners and shaded margins. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Nipissing District in Ontario is where Sawyer Lake sits. It sits at 438 metres above sea level. At about 47 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The bank runs about 3.8 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. The closest town, South River, is 43 km distant. For a city, Barrie is 151 km off. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Nipissing District cover smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. On Sawyer Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Seasonal averages run from -13°C in January up to 18°C in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Sawyer Lake.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is camping recorded roughly 350 m off. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Weir Lake at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Sawyer Lake in what we hold.
