Solid cloud cover today, with a steady SW wind with a settled glass. Start the search at Sandy Lake along any hard bottom among the soft. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Sandy Lake is a Nipissing District water, in Ontario. The country here is mixed forest. About 4 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Nipissing District. The nearest town is United Townships of Dysart, Dudley, Harcourt, Guilford, Harburn, Bruton, Havelock, Eyre and Clyde, 32 km away. Beyond it, Haliburton Village at 49 km and Bancroft at 63 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Nipissing District include smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch, pumpkinseed and rock bass. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Sandy Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -12°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. At Sandy Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. You can camp about 730 m away, going by the mapping. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Gem Lake sits 0.9 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Sandy Lake before loading the car.
