Scattered cloud taking the edge off the glare, with a whisper of wind from the W and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Ruth Lake should come off the shallows early and the drop later. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Ruth Lake lies within the bounds of Algoma, Ontario. Height above sea level is 377 metres. Surface area is around 13 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 2.2 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. On size it sits at the modest end of our Algoma list. Wawa sits 30 km from the bank. Beyond it, Chapleau at 100 km and Hornepayne at 109 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Our records hold no depth for this water. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Public occurrence data for Algoma names walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Work Ruth Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Ruth Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
We hold no note on access for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Middleton Lake at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. For Ruth Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
