Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a useful NW wind pushing food about and no real change in pressure. On Rock Lake, work the shaded margin through bright spells first. The productive run goes morning through afternoon. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Rock Lake is one of the Sudbury waters in Ontario. Elevation runs to 201 metres. It measures about 17 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. Supplies mean a trip to Markstay-Warren, 24 km off. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 42 km distant. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. The near bank of Rock Lake is often the one people ignore.
Average temperature peaks around 19°C in July and bottoms out near -13°C in January. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at early December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Anyone fishing Rock Lake regularly works to that calendar.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Punch Bowl Lake sits 1.2 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm access to Rock Lake locally before you travel.
