Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with next to no ripple with the barometer flat. On Band River, work eddies behind cover first. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Band River lies in Sudbury, Ontario. The bank is 199 metres above sea level. Ground here is low by Ontario standards. Markstay-Warren lies 21 km from the water. Greater Sudbury follows at 40 km, then Lively at 48 km. Within easy reach: Four Corner Lake after 1 km, Creek's End Lake some 1.2 km off, Barlow Lake after 1.7 km, Gull Lake some 2 km off and Tuckaway Lake after 2.5 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Gravel runs and silted pools fish quite differently, so treat them apart. Where two currents meet, work the crease between them. Open biodiversity records for Sudbury list smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Band River the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The year swings from about -13°C in January to roughly 19°C in July. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Cold months ice the margins and pools; moving water stays workable, and everything opens by late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about early December. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Plan around that when you fish Band River.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Four Corner Lake, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Band River may have changed since it was mapped.
