Robinson Lake in Rainy River District: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Robinson Lake is one of the Rainy River District waters in Ontario. The bank is 357 metres above sea level. At some 1.76 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. At about 14 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. The nearest place of any size is Atikokan, 63 km away. After that come Ignace at 78 km and Fort Frances at 79 km. This one is safely inside the county line.

• Where to Fish on Robinson Lake

  Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Rainy River District include northern pike, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Robinson Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 18°C in July. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it.   Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in.
