A closed sky with even light today, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Radford Lake should be near any hard bottom among the soft. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Radford Lake is one of the Algoma listings for Ontario. Everything around it is boreal forest. Wawa is the closest place, 30 km off. Hornepayne is 107 km away, with Chapleau at 115 km. Others within reach: Kapimchigama Lake (1.5 km), Big Marsh Lake lies 2.3 km on, Tea Lake (3.3 km), Ireland Lake lies 4.5 km on and Godon Lake (5.5 km). The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Algoma: walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Radford Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -16°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Anyone fishing Radford Lake regularly works to that calendar.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Kapimchigama Lake sits 1.5 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Radford Lake before loading the car.
