A grey, even sky over the water, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface and pressure sitting still. Give the first drop-off and weed lines the first hour at Clearview Lake. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

In Ontario, Clearview Lake belongs to Algoma. It sits in taiga. It runs to roughly 53 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 4.3 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Some 25 km away sits Wawa, the nearest settlement. Chapleau is 110 km away, with Hornepayne at 112 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Open biodiversity records for Algoma list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Clearview Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at -16°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Clearview Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Ireland Lake, 1.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Clearview Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
