A grey, even sky over the water, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Potspoon Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Frontenac County, Potspoon Lake is an Ontario water. The ground round it is rolling bush. With some 86 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Some 7.2 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. It is among the larger waters listed here for Frontenac County. Nearest town is Sharbot Lake, 21 km off. Beyond it, Sharpton/Glenvale at 31 km and Elginburg/Silvers Corners/Shannons Corners at 32 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Frontenac County, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, bluegill, rock bass, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The near bank of Potspoon Lake is often the one people ignore.
Expect July near 20°C and January near -10°C on the long-run figures. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid April until roughly early December. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Potspoon Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Norway Lake is 1.6 km distant. Nothing here settles the position at Potspoon Lake for certain.
