A closed sky with even light today, with a firm SW blow with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Paxton Lake around shallow cover and weed edges. Numbers are low everywhere; the morning is the pick of them. Go lighter and slower than usual. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Paxton Lake lies in Parry Sound District, in Ontario. The water sits 452 metres up. About 5 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Most waters listed here for Parry Sound District are larger. For supplies, South River is 24 km out. After that come Powassan at 33 km and Callander at 51 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Parry Sound District records list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and northern pike among the fish reported. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Paxton Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -13°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. At Paxton Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Overnight stays are possible about 520 m out, where camping is mapped. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Stephen Lake at 0.6 km is the nearest alternative. What applies at Paxton Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
