Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with almost no wind to speak of with the barometer flat. Start the search at Patterson Lake along the calm side of the wind. Expect the better fishing from the day. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Patterson Lake is one of the Lanark County waters in Ontario. Height above sea level is 201 metres. Surface area runs to roughly 1.62 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. Around 9.6 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Few waters listed in Lanark County are bigger. Nearest town is Perth, 25 km off. Sharbot Lake is 29 km and Carleton Place 33 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Lanark County cover pumpkinseed, rock bass and smallmouth bass. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Patterson Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 19°C, while January sits near -11°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Climate figures give an open season running mid April to early December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Patterson Lake rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Purdons Lake is 2.4 km off. Nothing on Patterson Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
