Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW and steady pressure. Start the search at Pass Lake along sheltered bays and points. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Pass Lake lies in Thunder Bay District, Ontario. The country round it is rolling bush from end to end. Roughly 23 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Roughly 2.4 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. 10 km away sits Amethyst Harbour, the nearest town. Shuniah Township is 28 km away, with Current River at 35 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Thunder Bay District names cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Pass Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -14°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Pass Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Public data does not answer the access question here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Overnight stays are possible about 560 m out, where camping is mapped. A picnic site 760 m off makes this workable with family in tow. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Andersen Lake, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Pass Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
