Moonlight in and out behind the cloud tonight, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW and no real change in pressure. The fish at Milkshake Lake are likely to sit near windblown banks where food collects. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast.

Milkshake Lake is one of the Thunder Bay District listings for Ontario. Elevation runs to 257 metres. With some 16 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 2.0 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On size it sits at the modest end of our Thunder Bay District list. Head to Amethyst Harbour, 8.9 km away, for anything you forgot. Further out sit Shuniah Township (26 km) and Current River (32 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Milkshake Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The warm month here averages 17°C; the cold one sits at -14°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. That shapes the year on Milkshake Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Wiswell Lake at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Milkshake Lake are worth checking on the day.
