Wet weather working through today, with a whisper of wind from the S and no real change in pressure. Partridge Lake should fish best around shallow cover and weed edges today. A long productive spell runs morning through afternoon. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Within Algoma, Ontario, you have Partridge Lake. The surface lies 414 metres up. The water covers some 30 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 2.5 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The town to know is Wawa, 66 km out. For a city, Thunder Bay is 275 km off. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Algoma, recorded fish include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The shape of Partridge Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -15°C. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. On Partridge Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Fox Lake is 1.3 km off. Rules at Partridge Lake are worth checking on the day.
