Bands of rain crossing through the day, with light air out of the SSW and no real change in pressure. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Otter Lake. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Otter Lake is an Algoma water, in Ontario. It lies 362 metres above sea level. It measures about 23 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The full circuit measures close to 2.2 km on foot. The nearest town is Wawa, 55 km away. Hornepayne lies 94 km off, Chapleau another 97 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Algoma, recorded fish include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Work Otter Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -17°C at the bottom of winter. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. That is the shape of the year on Otter Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. If the gate is shut, Hobon Lake at 3.4 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Otter Lake for certain.
