Full sun on the water today, with a decent NW wind working the banks and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Oban Lake along points where shallow meets deep. A long productive spell runs the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Oban Lake sits within Sudbury in Ontario. The water sits 453 metres up. At 7 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. On size it sits at the modest end of our Sudbury list. Chapleau is the closest place, 50 km off. Wawa is 113 km and Sault Ste. Marie 115 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. On Oban Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -14°C in January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. That is the shape of the year on Oban Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. If the gate is shut, Adios Lake at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. Treat access at Oban Lake as something to verify.
