An even grey lid over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the WNW and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Missus Lake should be near the weed line and any gaps in it. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Ontario holds Missus Lake, in Rainy River District. The country round it is mixed forest from end to end. This is sizeable water at about 2.33 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. There is roughly 15 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Fort Frances sits 61 km from here and is the nearest stop. Winnipeg is the closest city, 292 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Open biodiversity records for Rainy River District list northern pike, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Missus Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Expect July near 19°C and January near -17°C on the long-run figures. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Missus Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Mister Lake, 1.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Missus Lake is worth confirming on the day.
