Flat light and a covered sky today, with a working SSW breeze and no real change in pressure. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at McLeans Lake. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for McLeans Lake in the Frontenac County part of Ontario. The surface lies 199 metres up. Small at around 10 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Roughly 1.3 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Ontario listings. Sharbot Lake is the closest place, 4.2 km off. Kingston sits 61 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. This one is safely inside the county line.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish documented in Frontenac County include pumpkinseed, bluegill and rock bass. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On McLeans Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Between January at about -10°C and July at about 20°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near early December in autumn. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to McLeans Lake.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. The nearest alternative is Little Canoe Lake, 1.8 km out. None of that is settled for McLeans Lake in what we hold.
