Dull, settled light over the water, with a soft S wind with the barometer flat. Fish at Bass Lake should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Frontenac County, Bass Lake is an Ontario water. The bank gives way to pine and birch. Roughly 80 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Some 7.3 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Size puts it in the front rank of our Frontenac County list. Sharbot Lake lies 9.2 km from the water. Perth is 46 km and Sharpton/Glenvale 48 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Public occurrence data for Frontenac County names pumpkinseed, bluegill, rock bass and smallmouth bass. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Bass Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Seasonal averages run from -10°C in January up to 20°C in July. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Ice is part of the season here, ending near mid April. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near early December. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Bass Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. McLaughlin Lake sits 1.6 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Bass Lake before loading the car.
