Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on McLachlan Lake should come off inflow corners and shaded margins. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Ontario holds McLachlan Lake, in Renfrew County. The water sits 194 metres up. With some 18 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The whole outline is near 2.2 km, and most of it is walkable. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. 15 km away sits Renfrew, the nearest town. Further out sit Arnprior (18 km) and Shawville (27 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth figures are not published for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Renfrew County cover smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At McLachlan Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Long-term averages put July at about 20°C and January near -12°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. Averages place the thaw at mid April and the freeze at early December. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Plan any trip to McLachlan Lake around it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Taylor Lake is 3.5 km distant. Signs at McLachlan Lake carry more weight than any list.
