Dull, settled light over the water, with enough SSW wind to stack food downwind with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Fraser Lake should come off points where shallow meets deep. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient.

Fraser Lake is a Renfrew County water, in Ontario. The surface lies 205 metres up. Roughly 13 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. There is roughly 1.6 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. The closest town, Renfrew, is 6.6 km distant. After that come Arnprior at 22 km and Shawville at 23 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Renfrew County records list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and rock bass among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Fish Fraser Lake to its features, not to its size.
Average temperature peaks around 20°C in July and bottoms out near -12°C in January. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around early December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. At Fraser Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Deils Lake at 1.9 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Fraser Lake.
