No direct sun expected today, with a gentle ripple from the WNW and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Lunch Lake are likely to sit near the shaded margin through bright spells. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

You will find Lunch Lake in Thunder Bay District, Ontario. It lies 352 metres above sea level. At about 22 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The bank runs about 3.6 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The nearest town is Terrace Bay, 12 km away. Schreiber follows at 20 km, then Manitouwadge at 89 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Thunder Bay District, recorded fish include cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Lunch Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lunch Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Margon Lake sits 1.2 km off and takes the overflow. For Lunch Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
