Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a persistent wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Fish at Lower High Lake should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. The numbers single out the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lower High Lake is a Greater Sudbury water, Ontario side. The water sits 333 metres up. The water covers some 21 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 3.1 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Supplies mean a trip to Capreol, 53 km off. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 77 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike and pumpkinseed. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lower High Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -15°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lower High Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Apollo Lake at 0.5 km is the sensible second choice. Where Lower High Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
