A grey, even sky over the water, with a consistent blow out of the WSW with the glass holding level. Fish at Loucks Lake should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. One clear peak today: the evening. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Loucks Lake in Parry Sound District, Ontario. Height above sea level is 247 metres. Roughly 32 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. About 4.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Head to Parry Sound, 25 km away, for anything you forgot. Further out sit Bracebridge (42 km) and Gravenhurst (46 km). Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Parry Sound District: smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, northern pike and rock bass. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The shape of Loucks Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Between January at about -9°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid April. Ice usually gives way near mid April, and forms again about early December. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It holds true on Loucks Lake more years than not.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Baby Lake sits 1.6 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Loucks Lake in what we hold.
