A still, cloudless night on the water, with just enough SW wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Give structure within a cast of the bank the first hour at Loch Garry. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Loch Garry is an Ontario water. Beyond the shoreline you have pine and birch. Roughly 3.79 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. Shoreline length is close to 13 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Alexandria is the closest town at 9.4 km. Cornwall follows at 26 km, then Casselman at 30 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Survey and observation records for United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry include johnny darter, yellow perch and common carp. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Anyone new to Loch Garry should walk it once before setting up.
In an average year July sits at 20°C and January at -11°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The lid usually goes in mid April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around early December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. At Loch Garry the season follows that pattern closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. A camping area sits within 830 m of here. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Middle Lake at 5.4 km is the nearest alternative. Ask locally about Loch Garry if anything is unclear.
