Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a faint WSW drift and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Black Lake should come off shallow cover and weed edges. One clear peak today: the evening. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Black Lake stands in United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario. The surface lies 87 metres up. At roughly 4 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry list. Alexandria at 9 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Casselman (27 km) and Plantagenet (29 km). The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry cover johnny darter, yellow perch and common carp. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Fish Black Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Expect July near 20°C and January near -12°C on the long-run figures. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around early December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Black Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Mud Lake sits 4.2 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Black Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
