A closed sky with even light today, with steady pressure of wind from the NW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Little Black Lake along the first drop-off and weed lines. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Little Black Lake is listed under Timiskaming District, Ontario. Height above sea level is 335 metres. With some 13 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Temiskaming Shores lies 25 km from the water. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 123 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Timiskaming District include brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Little Black Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -16°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That is the shape of the year on Little Black Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. For a change of water, Gullrock Lake is 2.7 km distant. Check the current arrangement for Little Black Lake.
