A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with an easy breeze from the W and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Ling Lake will be around sheltered bays and points. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Night
Look for Ling Lake in the Nipissing District part of Ontario. Everything around it is rolling bush. At about 16 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 2.0 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. The big place round here is Barrie, 145 km distant. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Nipissing District include smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch, pumpkinseed and rock bass. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Ling Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -12°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Ling Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Failing this one, try Cradle Lake, 2.1 km away. Where Ling Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
