A closed sky with even light today, with a busy WSW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Lane Lake will be around the seam between weed and open water. Save your energy for the evening. Change depth before you change anything else. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lane Lake belongs to Parry Sound District, Ontario. The surface lies 248 metres up. It measures about 18 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 2.8 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Nearest place of any size is Parry Sound, 8.3 km away. The big place round here is Barrie, 107 km distant. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Parry Sound District include smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Lane Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 19°C, while January sits near -9°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly mid April. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It holds true on Lane Lake more years than not.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Plate Lake, 0.9 km out. Treat access at Lane Lake as something to verify.
