Scattered cloud taking the edge off the glare, with a soft W wind and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Laforest Lake along the first drop-off and weed lines. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

In Ontario, Laforest Lake falls inside Sudbury. The surface lies 444 metres up. At about 18 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 2.2 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. The nearest place of any size is Capreol, 45 km away. For a city, Greater Sudbury is 64 km off. No border sits close enough to matter.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Sudbury records list smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Laforest Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The warmest month averages 17°C, the coldest about -15°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Laforest Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Upper Dua Lake at 2.9 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Laforest Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
