A mix of sun and cloud over the water, with air barely moving and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Island Lake will be around the shallows early and the drop later. A stay-home graph, with the morning as the one excuse to go. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today.

Look for Island Lake in the Sudbury part of Ontario. Height above sea level is 191 metres. Surface area is around 72 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Around 6.2 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. Markstay-Warren sits 47 km from the bank. After that come West Nipissing at 49 km and Sturgeon Falls at 49 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth figures are not published for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Island Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Temperature averages peak at 19°C in July and bottom out at -12°C in January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near early December. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. On Island Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Pike Lake at 2.9 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Island Lake.
