Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a soft NW wind with a settled glass. The water to cover at Hyatt Lake is points where shallow meets deep. An ordinary day throughout, patience over timing. Change depth before you change anything else. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Hyatt Lake in the Thunder Bay District part of Ontario. The surroundings are northern bush. Roughly 38 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Bank access stretches around 2.4 km in total. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Ontario listings. Nearest town is Longlac, 120 km off. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 347 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Reported across Thunder Bay District: cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Hyatt Lake that means starting tight and working out.
The year swings from about -20°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Anyone fishing Hyatt Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try La Rose Lake, 6.2 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Hyatt Lake for certain.
