Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a helpful ripple pushed from the NW and pressure sitting still. Give the first drop-off and weed lines the first hour at Renwick Lake. The day peaks in the evening. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

You will find Renwick Lake in Thunder Bay District, Ontario. Everything around it is spruce and muskeg. The water covers around 1.48 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. The margin runs to about 6.2 km in total. The nearest place of any size is Longlac, 105 km away. After that come Geraldton at 115 km and Greenstone at 118 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Thunder Bay District records list cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The shape of Renwick Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -20°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Renwick Lake that shapes the whole year.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Crony Lake at 2.1 km is the nearest alternative. Where Renwick Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
