Open sky and sharp air tonight, with a busy WNW wind on the open water with the barometer flat. The productive water at Huronian Lake will be around points where shallow meets deep. The strongest window runs from afternoon into evening. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

You will find Huronian Lake in Thunder Bay District, Ontario. Height above sea level is 477 metres. At some 3.75 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. Some 22 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. On our Thunder Bay District list it sits near the top for size. Atikokan at 63 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Thunder Bay is 117 km off. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Thunder Bay District, recorded fish include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. The near bank of Huronian Lake is often the one people ignore.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. On Huronian Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Rudge Lake sits 2.9 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Huronian Lake in what we hold.
