Bands of rain crossing through the day, with the surface near flat and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Arbour Lake along bays that hold the day's warmth. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Arbour Lake is one of the Thunder Bay District listings for Ontario. The bank is 477 metres above sea level. It measures about 74 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge covers about 9.4 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. It sits higher than most water we list in Ontario. Atikokan sits 59 km from the bank. For a city, Thunder Bay is 121 km off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Public occurrence data for Thunder Bay District names cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. The county list is broader than any single water. Arbour Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Climate normals give 18°C for July and -17°C for January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Expect Arbour Lake to follow that timing.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Grano Lake sits 2.6 km off and takes the overflow. Rules at Arbour Lake are worth checking on the day.
