Blue sky from bank to bank today, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface and pressure going nowhere. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Hobart Lake. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Hobart Lake belongs to Timiskaming District, Ontario. The surface lies 286 metres up. It runs to roughly 88 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. With 6.0 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. It is among the larger waters listed here for Timiskaming District. Temiskaming Shores is the closest town at 45 km. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 112 km distant. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Timiskaming District records list brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye among the fish reported. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Fish Hobart Lake to its features, not to its size.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Hobart Lake.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Tupper Lake, 1.3 km out. None of that is settled for Hobart Lake in what we hold.
