Cloud in patches with bright spells between, with a decent SW wind working the banks and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Hambone Lake should centre on inflow corners and shaded margins. Bank on the evening and treat the rest as bonus. Take the steady approach over the searching one.

Hambone Lake is one of the Parry Sound District waters in Ontario. It sits at 443 metres above sea level. With some 40 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. There is roughly 4.6 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. The nearest place of any size is South River, 36 km away. Barrie sits 151 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and northern pike. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Hambone Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -13°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That shapes the year on Hambone Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is a ramp at Magnetawan Lake Access Point (#3), 890 m out. You will be walking about 870 m from the nearest car park. There is a jetty 890 m off, worth knowing on a busy day. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Acme Lake, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Hambone Lake.
