A still, cloudless night on the water, with mild air moving in from the WSW with a settled glass. On David Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Look for David Lake in the Parry Sound District part of Ontario. It sits at 457 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 39 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Bank access stretches around 3.0 km in total. It is high ground by Ontario standards. For supplies, South River is 36 km out. Huntsville is 46 km away, with Powassan at 47 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Parry Sound District: smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and northern pike. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. David Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -13°C in January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That is the shape of the year on David Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. A campsite lies 360 m away for anyone staying over. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Failing this one, try Notagan Lake, 1.4 km away. Check the position on David Lake before loading the car.
