Full sun on the water today, with a whisper of wind from the W with a settled glass. Greenwood Lake should fish best around structure within a cast of the bank today. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Greenwood Lake in the Thunder Bay District part of Ontario. The bank is 569 metres above sea level. At 8.31 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. At about 28 km of edge, most people fish a single area and learn it well. It ranks high for size among our Thunder Bay District listings. Some 30 km away sits Grand Marais, the nearest settlement. Neebing is 59 km and Westfort 77 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
The basin has been measured to about 35 metres. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Greenwood Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -15°C on the long-run figures. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Greenwood Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Toilets show in mapping about 980 m away. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. North Shady Lake at 1.7 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Greenwood Lake in what we hold.
