Flat light and a covered sky today, with a consistent blow out of the WNW with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Gall Lake should be near the first drop-off and weed lines. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Thunder Bay District in Ontario is where Gall Lake sits. Height above sea level is 465 metres. It measures about 54 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. At about 9.4 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. The closest town, Lappe, is 88 km distant. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 109 km away. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Gall Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -20°C at the bottom of winter. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. That is the shape of the year on Gall Lake.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Lob Lake, 4.2 km away. None of that is settled for Gall Lake in what we hold.
