A grey, even sky over the water, with enough NW wind to stack food downwind and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Gahn Lake should come off the seam between weed and open water. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient.

Gahn Lake is one of the Rainy River District listings for Ontario. The land about it is mixed forest. The water covers some 97 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. At about 5.2 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Start from Atikokan, 33 km down the road. Beyond it, Ely at 74 km and Babbitt at 96 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Rainy River District include northern pike, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Gahn Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
The warmest month averages 18°C, the coldest about -16°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It holds true on Gahn Lake more years than not.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Kendall Lake is 1.5 km distant. Where Gahn Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
