Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with steady pressure of wind from the W with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Frood Lake should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. The day peaks in the evening. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Sudbury entry here is Frood Lake, in Ontario. Height above sea level is 190 metres. At 2.54 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. Shoreline length is close to 22 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Size puts it in the front rank of our Sudbury list. Some 16 km away sits Espanola, the nearest settlement. Beyond it, Little Current at 25 km and Lively at 53 km. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. The shape of Frood Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Expect July to average close to 19°C, with January the cold end at about -11°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly early December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That is the shape of the year on Frood Lake.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Overnight stays are possible 1.5 km away. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Charlton Lake at 1.5 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Frood Lake are worth checking on the day.
