Flat light and a covered sky today, with a working WNW breeze with a settled glass. Activity on Folkard Lake should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The Kenora District entry here is Folkard Lake, in Ontario. Country round the bank runs to lake country bush. With some 17 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 2.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On size it sits at the modest end of our Kenora District list. Start from Sioux Lookout, 51 km down the road. The big place round here is Thunder Bay, 295 km distant. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Folkard Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -20°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. That shapes the year on Folkard Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Horse Lake, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Folkard Lake in what we hold.
