Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with an easy breeze from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Fly Lake should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Fly Lake stands in District Municipality of Muskoka, Ontario. The surface lies 366 metres up. At 6 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. It is a small entry by District Municipality of Muskoka standards. Head to Huntsville, 25 km away, for anything you forgot. After that come Bracebridge at 33 km and Haliburton Village at 40 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for District Municipality of Muskoka list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and northern pike. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. At Fly Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Between January at about -11°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid April until roughly early December. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Fly Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Insula Lake, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Fly Lake before loading the car.
