Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with a busy WNW wind on the open water with the barometer flat. Fish at Faulkenham Lake should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. A long productive spell runs the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Kenora District end of Ontario holds Faulkenham Lake. The bank gives way to pine and birch. Roughly 2.38 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. Shoreline length is close to 14 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Supplies mean a trip to Red Lake, 7.8 km off. For a city, Winnipeg is 260 km off. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Faulkenham Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Climate normals give 18°C for July and -19°C for January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Faulkenham Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Should this one be busy, Halden Lake is 1.3 km off. Confirm access to Faulkenham Lake locally before you travel.
