Cloud coming and going through the night, with a steady S wind with the glass holding level. Dyer Lake should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. A broad window opens from night into morning. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Set in Algoma, Ontario, this is Dyer Lake. Height above sea level is 446 metres. At about 40 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Shoreline length is close to 8.7 km, and each section fishes a little differently. It is high ground by Ontario standards. Supplies mean a trip to Sault Ste. Marie, 86 km off. For a city, Greater Sudbury is 262 km off. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Algoma include walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Dyer Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -14°C in January. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan around that when you fish Dyer Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Redcliff Lake at 1.9 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Dyer Lake in what we hold.
